More About Work

31. My current job is working as a lactation consultant at ORMC.
32. I love my job. It is my favorite one so far in my life.
33. I generally get to talk to people who have expressed an interest in breastfeeding and are in mega learning mode, since the baby is here NOW.
34. I love it when I introduce myself and people say: "good, we've been waiting for you", or "I'm glad you're here".
35. I also love it when someone comes up to me in a store or some other public place and says "do you remember me? You helped me with breastfeeding and I couldn't have done it without your help!".
36. I have been a dietitian for about 30 years.
37. I also teach nutrition online through Weber State University.
38. One of my favorite learning terms is "memorize to regurgitate".
39. One of the least efficient ways to learn is "memorize to regurgitate".
40. I got my master's degree about 25 years after my bachelors.

Garden Pictures

Our "Hammock Garden"

Our "Bench Garden"

Here are a few pictures of our garden areas at the beginning of the summer. I'm hoping the flowers look more full by the end.

About work

21. My first paying job was babysitting other people's children.
22. I still babysit sometimes, but I don't usually do it for money now.
23. I wish I could babysit my grandkids more.
24. I worked my way through college by working in my Dad's used furniture and appliance store.
25. That is where I learned to clean really, really dirty stoves and refrigerators.
26. My own appliances are never as hard to clean as the ones he got in his store.
27. I made sure my last stove purchase had a self-cleaning oven.
28. I worked for a while as a secretary for the statistics department at BYU.
29. While on my dietetic internship I earned some money by cleaning people's houses. I started doing that type of work while in high school.
30. Now my daughter has also earned some money cleaning people's houses. But she got most of her experience by cleaning at BYU.

More about me

11. We lived for at least 12 or 14 years in the Uintah Basin.
12. I'm glad we had that opportunity, but I like it on the Wasatch Front even better.
13. For the first 30 years of marriage I let Ken take care of everything in the yard.
14. After 17 years here I decided he needed help.
15. It has been painful for him to throw away junk from the yard that he "might use someday".
16. My daughter introduced Square Foot Gardening to me and now we are incorporating it into our yard. It looks great.
17. I hate mowing the lawn, but I hate even more how it looks un-mowed.
18. I love planting Petunias and Marigolds because they don't take a lot of care and they look good for along time.
19. Getting old is not for sissys. Every week I seem to get a new ache or pain.
20. My most noticable one now is in my left knee.

This is for you Mighty Bob

Mighty Bob challenged me to write 100 things about me. I keep putting it off because I think of how long it would take. But, following MBob's example I'll just do it a little at a time.

1. I was born, raised, and have lived most of my life in Utah.
2. I have 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
3. I have 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls.
4. I have 4 grandchildren, 2 boys and 2 girls.
5. I have the cutest grandchildren in the world.
6. I work at a hospital as a lactation consultant, so I've seen a lot of babies and it is no exaggeration that mine are the cutest.
7. I also teach nutrition online for WSU.
8. I can testify that teachers are every bit, if not even more excited when the end of the semester comes as are the students.
9. I've discovered that some students don't do hardly any work during the semester (they don't turn in most of the assignments and only some of the exams) and are distressed when they fail the class.
10. I don't feel very sorry for those students and I won't pass them just because they will lose their funding if they fail. I make them turn in their work.
